Grow them tall

One thing that I have come across recently is the buildings that are growing plants inside. I thought it was an ordinary building until I saw pictures inside where plants were growing from the ceiling and the floor and there was a center light that gave light to every plant. This idea is very revolutionary to our economy because many people in the world are starving right now. This idea allows people to grow plants year round and to produce them in an efficient way. The water can be reused and the plants are very accessible and they also grow a whole lot quicker than them being grown outside. I think that if the world has a shot at conserving water and valuable resources, we must hop onto this idea of growing our plants up instead of out.

Iphone is the greatest

Yea who knew that you could twitter saying there is a Black Rail down the path. For many bird watchers it is very important to have an Iphone. Why? Well texting not only keeps a full conversation, it also has the application for Twitter. Twitter can be used to have random updates, but for bird watchers it is very helpful to share information and to also help each other out when they see a bird. I believe that the Iphone is a key to nature conservation. This may seem odd but the Iphone will help people communicate quicker on how to find answers and to share them than any other phone out there. Without it we might as well go back to the stone age.

The ripple effect

I have come to understand how making a little goes a long way and effects a lot of different things. For instance, if I choose to recycle then I am helping the environment everyday by recycle and saving the atmosphere from gases and I am also saving myself from having to buy another water bottle when I could fill the old one up. In Pennsylvania, along the French Creek, there are nearly 28 species of mussels. Now because the forest watershed is protect it helps the rest of the area. Conserve a floodplain forest and you’ve not only protected drinking water for communities downstream, but you’ve also preserved habitat for birds, fish, and other animals that rely on clean streams and healthy forests.

Trees: Water's guardian

As I was reading an article in the Indianapolis Star from the January 15th edition, I noticed a section talking about trees being cut down. Then it started to talk about how companies need to find new water sources because the river they were taking from wasn't being naturally purified anymore. Then the article started talking about how the upper layers of the forest take the nutrients from the rain water that make the water "dirty" and then trees also provide good protection along the banks to prevent erosion into the water. I never knew how the trees along rivers play a key role in society. One thing I plan on doing during the summer is helping restore the banks along the rivers around my community.

Colorado River

The Colorado River happens to be the life line of the state. Without it many people would be without nature water and necessities to their daily lives. The River has been cleaned up fairly well but there still is work to be done. One thing that really struck me is that this river flows to Las Vegas and San Diego and many people get their tap water from it. Without it I believe many people's lives would be in jeopardy. One thing that this country and the world actually forget out is that if we pollute our natural resources, then we have to start cleaning up hoping that we can still use it again. Or we have to find another resource and we will eventually run out. I think overall that if we want to continue to be on earth, we need to conserve our resources, like water, and use the efficiently.

Conserving?

People might think we are on our way to conserving certain items in the environment, but what most people miss is that animals species are dying off. Habitat destruction, poaching, and manipulation of protection laws is causing many animals to die off. In 20 years it is quite possible for 50% of the animals we know today to have disappeared from the earth. The people that get blamed for not caring usually are the large corporations that use areas they shouldn't. In order for our world to take a step in advancing our help for animals, we must first stop the building are start rebuilding the habitats.

Tiger Treatments

I would of never thought that Tigers would used for treatments in Asia. Tigers have gone down by 95% and there is an estimate of being between 5000 and 7500 Tigers left in the world. The Bali, Caspian, and Javan Tigers have already been classified as extinct and more types are on their way. The reason they have been disappearing in Asia is because Tiger bone is in high demand for Chinese medication. I think the Chinese need to stick to other treatments and leave the Tigers alone because in 25 years people may not even know what a Tiger was.
